Home / Announcements / Storm Update Message!

Dear New Horizons Charter Academy Family,

In preparation for the storm that is expected to impact Southern California, the National Weather Service predicts a growing potential for many hours of moderate to heavy rainfall from Sunday through Tuesday with the storm peaking on Sunday night. Winds are also expected which may cause downed power lines and impassable roads.
New Horizons Charter Academy has engaged in several precautions to ensure the safety of students, families and employees.

SCHOOL CAMPUS SAFETY
All Schools have been instructed to review their comprehensive safety plans and emergency protocols, and have communicated with their school communities. Our operations team have prepared school campus with preventative work and supplies to minimize debris and the potential impact of flooding. The LAUSD on-site maintenance and operations team will arrive early to determine any impact to Fair Ave Elementary on Monday.

SCHOOL UPDATES
Stay tuned for updates on nhcharteracademy.com, social media on NHCA app, on KLCS-TV, on news outlets and messages directly from your principal. If families and students need additional help, please contact our Family Hotline at (818) 655-9602

The safety of our students, employees and school communities remains our top priority. As a reminder, please allow extra time for your commute and use extreme caution when driving to schools and offices. Please also note alternative routes in case of downed power lines and flooding. Stay clear from rushing water and rivers and do not walk or drive through flooded areas. Children should never walk through or play in riverbeds and flood channels.
We are also collaborating with the City of Los Angeles and all other emergency personnel organizations to ensure the safety of everyone in our school communities.

New Horizons Charter Academy will continue to monitor the storm closely and make adjustments based on weather conditions and consultations with emergency personnel.

Sincerely,

Richard Thomas
Executive Director and Principal
