I hope everyone is well and excited for the upcoming weekend. Just a few announcements.
Our upcoming Open House will be held at both Lankershim and Fair Ave campuses In-Person from 4:30pm to 5:30pm. This is a chance to come and see all the great work your students has been engaged in. If you are interested in setting up a parent conference, please reach out to your child’s teacher. As this is showcase night for the kids!!!
I held previous information sessions a month ago regarding our upcoming merge of TK-4th Grade students with our 5th – 8th Grade students at Fair Ave. campus. New Horizons Charter Academy has had an amazing relationship with LAUSD at Fair Ave, and have enjoyed our opportunity to provide an incredible educational program at Fair Ave. As previously mentioned in our information sessions and Board Meetings, New Horizons Charter Academy will be moving our TK – 4th Grade students to the additional classrooms that LAUSD has granted New Horizons Charter Academy. As of July 31st, 2023, New Horizons Charter Academy will have vacated the Lankershim Campus, and moved all equipment and teacher materials to Fair Ave. NHCA has purchased state of the art, new SMARTBoards, and will enjoy the 30% larger classrooms. NHCA will have access to the newly remodeled school Library on Fair Ave campus. NHCA has access to the large blacktop play area, handball, volleyball, kickball and basketball courts. NHCA has access to the awesome jungle jim playground area for our younger students. NHCA has access the beautiful multipurpose auditorium where we can have outstanding assemblies, drama and other fun activities. NHCA will continue to provide our state of the art, High School level STEMLab for our students. However, we will open up the STEMLab to 4th graders as well!!!
I am aware that some students that attend the Lankershim campus walk to school because of the proximity to the school and their home. NHCA is investigating the possibility of purchasing two large 15 person passenger vans to pickup students in the CVS parking lot in the morning to transport them to Fair Ave as a way to help them continue be a part of our amazing school. This will be on a limited basis for our most needy cases, but can definitely help those that walk to our current school. Fair Ave campus is 1.2 miles away from Lankershim campus, so this should be viable for the majority of the parents that current drive their students to school. I will provide more information on this endeavor of school transportation when I have all the details finalized. NHCA values every student, and each one of your children have been an incredible part of our school family.
New Horizons Charter Academy continues to score 30% above the surrounding Elementary Schools, and 45% above the surrounding Middle Schools. NHCA continues to have a highly-qualified instructional aide in your child’s classroom for 6 hours of school day, everyday!!! You can only imagine how this makes all the difference with instructional support, and supervision support outside during recess and lunch. There are many things that NHCA does for our students, that other schools do NOT!!
New Horizons Charter Academy will continue to offer our amazing after school program provided by Think Together. NHCA will be sending home an intent to enroll letter to determine if you are not returning to New Horizons Charter Academy. We certainly hope you will join us at the Fair Ave campus for the 2023-2024 school year.
We hope that you will continue to allow us to shepherd your student in the educational journey as we make this difficult transition. I am continuing to work with 4 or 5 brokers in the area to secure a long-term facility for New Horizons Charter Academy, so we made all come together on our own property one day!!! We survived COVID lockdowns, Zoom instruction, Hybrid instruction, and we will survive and thrive in our new move to this bigger campus, that offers our students many additional opportunities.
I invite all parents on Open House Day of May 3rd, 2023 from 4:30pm to 5:30pm to come Fair Ave and walk the campus and see everything that school has to offer your child.
