Home / Meeting / Parent Meeting Regarding Facilities for 2016-2017

New Horizons Charter Academy currently has 2 years remaining on the current lease. We are exploring options between our current school site and the LAUSD Fair Ave Elementary School.

New Horizons Charter Academy has been involved in negotiations with Los Angeles Unified School District regarding the possible use of empty classrooms on one of its nearby elementary schools. As presented at several past Parent In Action Meetings and Board Meetings regarding the offer of a co-location LAUSD Prop 39 since November, we have received the response back from LAUSD.

The original proposal shared in February was the location of Fair Ave. Elementary. The school is located at the corner of Fair Avenue and Kittridge, approximately one-mile from New Horizons Charter Academy. In the original proposal was classrooms and some shared space on their campus. Through extensive negotiations during March, NHCA was able to obtain a commitment to 13 classrooms, all clustered together in the same area of the campus. NHCA is submitting a counter proposal to LAUSD for an additional classroom. We are waiting to hear back on this. The Offer for this potential school is limited to a one-year contract. There certainly is a high probability of renewal of our contract in May 2017 for the 2017-2018 school year, but that is determined by LAUSD.

Additionally, NHCA was able to obtain a commitment to the following shared spaces:

Library, Auditorium, Cafeteria, Conference Room, Outside Volleyball Courts, Outside Basketball Courts, Outside Handball Courts, Computer Lab, Faculty Lounge, Nursing Station and Science Lab.

In addition to the shared spaces and classrooms, LAUSD will also provide the following services as part of the co-location charge: Maintenance and Operations, Utilities, High-Speed Internet, Janitorial Service, Phone Systems, Furniture, Computers and School Police.

The classrooms numbered 42, 45-56 have been allocated to New Horizons Charter Academy. The expectation is that the parking to west of the portables would be used by New Horizons Charter Academy.

New Horizons Charter Academy would like to hear from our parents and guardians regarding this possible site as a new facility for growth and access to various additional options for NHCA children. Please join us on Monday and April 18 at 5:30pm for an informative meeting regarding this potential new site for our school.
