New Horizons Charter Academy was informed today by LAUSD Charter School Division that there was a non-credible threat made to one of LAUSD High Schools. The Charter School Division requested all schools to perform a sweep of the facilities to determine if anything looked suspicious. Although New Horizons Charter Academy is an independent charter school, they are authorized by the District as per state charter school law and follow the direction of the Superintendent in cases of an emergency or threat. New Horizons Charter Academy Administration performed a thorough sweep of the facility and outside the facility. Additionally, United Children Learning Center also swept their school and facility. No suspicious materials or individuals were noticed.
Some parents have asked why the notice of the closure of the New Horizons Charter Academy came later than the notice to the traditional public schools within the District. The reason: New Horizons Charter Academy did not receive any type of threat. The threat was made to specific schools within the District and we were not informed of the threat to the District schools until the Superintendent’s decision was made to close ALL schools within the boundaries of the LAUSD.
This event reminds us of the importance to immediately inform your school of any change to your personal information. We make every effort to contact parents as quickly as possible, but all phone numbers, and the names of adults to whom children may be released, must be current. (Remember that students will only be released to adults who are listed on the emergency card. If you are not certain whom you have listed, please check with the main office of New Horizons Charter Academy.)
It is unfortunate that we live in a time when even our schools are vulnerable. But knowing this, emergency procedures are practiced regularly at our school, with the importance of listening, following directions and being prepared emphasized with even our youngest students. Our emergency supplies are in place, and staff members are trained in how to respond to challenging situations.

Ayer, Martes, 4 de Marzo de 2016 las cinco escuelas autónomas publicas dentro de la organización de New Horizons Charter Academy se cerraron como dirigido por el Superintendente del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Los Ángeles (LASUD), Michelle King. Todas las escuelas New Horizons Charter Academy son escuelas autónomas independientes, quienes están autorizados por el Distrito de acuerdo con la ley escuela autónoma del estado y siguen la dirección del Superintendente en caso de una emergencia o amenaza.
Algunos padres han preguntado por qué el anuncio del cierre de las escuelas New Horizons Charter Academy vino después de la notificación a las escuelas públicas tradicionales dentro del Distrito. La razón: las escuelas New Horizons Charter Academy no recibieron ningún tipo de amenaza. La amenaza fue hecha a las escuelas específicas dentro del Distrito y no se nos informó de la amenaza a las escuelas del Distrito hasta que se hizo la decisión del Superintendente para cerrar todas las escuelas dentro de los límites del LAUSD.
Este evento nos recuerda sobre la importancia de informar inmediatamente a su escuela de cualquier cambio en su información personal. Hacemos todo lo posible para ponernos en contacto con los padres tan pronto posible, pero todos los números de teléfono y los nombres de los adultos adecuados para dar de ida a los estudiantes, deben ser actual. Es lamentable que vivimos en una época en que incluso nuestras escuelas son vulnerables. Pero sabiendo esto, los procedimientos de emergencia se practican regularmente en cada una de nuestras escuelas, con la importancia de escuchar, seguir instrucciones y estar preparado enfatizado incluso con nuestros estudiantes más jóvenes. Nuestros suministros de emergencia están en su lugar, y los miembros del personal están entrenados en cómo responder a situaciones difíciles.
